Head Over Heels in the Valley this February

The Hudson Valley is one of the top regions on the East Coast offering up a huge variety of places to get married, from upscale white tablecloth venues to rustic barn venues. Many of our inns host weddings, from small intimate gatherings to larger functions.

Before we offer up some ideas of our wedding venues, we want to note that the Hudson Valley region is one of the top places to pop that big question and the number one date that that happens upon, is, you guessed it, Valentine’s Day!

What better way to set that perfect question up then to reserve a romantic getaway at one of our lodging association members.

Many of our inns will be offering romance packages just for you, so be sure to check their websites and Facebook pages, or better yet call directly and ask. Many of them also offer special additions, like chocolate and flowers to make that perfect “pop the question” day, a perfect ending before a good night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast the next morning.

But popping the question in February might seem like a chilly proposition if you are a fan of the outdoors so here are a few suggestions for a snowy day if you are feeling adventurous.

Olana may be your cup of tea, the snow-covered terrace at the feet of the house makes a perfect viewing platform of the river and the snowbound Catskill Mountains evoking the winter wonderland of fairy tale beauty.

Winter at the Bear Mountain Bridge

Covered Bridges during any time of year are the perfect romantic place to ask for your love’s heart under a starlit night, cold breath pluming into the air and hands tucked into your significant ones for warmth.  Perrine’s Bridge right outside of New Paltz is a historic covered bridge for foot traffic only. Turnwood Bridge, in Ashokan Center in Olivebridge is another historic covered bridge, another single-span bridge evoking times long past.

The Walkway Over the Hudson is a perfect place to pop the question during any time of year, the scenic views in either direction making it the perfect place to capture digitally the memory for family history or an Instagram or Facebook post for all of your friends and family to see. Or the Skywalk over the Hudson, between Columbia County and Green County, offers expansive views of the river and area as well!

The region also hosts many wineries open throughout the year, with nooks and crannies in which to cuddle with your significant other and snow-laden arbors laced with vines for a classic setting, evoking fairy tale Prince (or Princess) Charming or perhaps the prince from Sleeping Beauty with her castle covered in vines. Wineries also have the benefit of having perfect memorabilia to bring home for the occasion, whether it be drinkable or beautifully engraved glasses or a precious ornament to treasure forever. Couple romantically standing in the snowSome additional places in the valley of interest, and we could go on for pages and pages, but a few stand out. The Culinary Institute of America has also had hundreds of proposals on the front steps in every season.
