Focus on Changing Times Boutique Country B&B

Changing Times Bed and Breakfast FrontLoretta and Jim Carley are the innkeepers at the Changing Times Bed and Breakfast. Or “Keepers of the Inn” as they say on their website.

When asked, “What is your favorite local restaurant that you like to send guests to?” Loretta and Jim come back with, “There’s no place like Hudson! Changing Times is just outside the hip small city of Hudson where guests can choose between dozens of world class restaurants offering fine wine, local beers and creative farm to table menus.“

The innkeepers tell us, “Changing Times is centrally located and convenient to the Hudson Valley’s best towns, attractions, waterfalls and state parks! Our guests love visiting Olana anytime of the year, where they can learn about the Hudson Valley School of Painters, but in Summer, it’s Lake Taghkanic’s pristine swimming and the Hudson Valley’s only sandy beach our guests enjoy!”

Loretta and Jim believe that time should be celebrated and in honor of their 12th year, they are offering Sizzling Summer Specials including midweek stays starting at $99 with breakfast! Perfect for today’s smart travelers and savvy retirees!

Changing Times Bed and Breakfast Guest RoomWhen asked how did they get interested in running a B&B and being innkeepers? Loretta says, “I love helping people and Jim loves to cook! Opening an Inn seemed like the perfect way to enjoy an early retirement and move upstate to the country!” A guest wrote a review stating, “Loretta has hospitality in her blood!” And considering the gentleman worked high up in the Hotel industry, it was quite a complement!

We got some history from the innkeepers about what they did prior to running their B&B. Loretta passes on that, “Jim is a journeymen electrician and a proud retired member of IBEW Local 25, but he’s one of those guys who can literally do anything. Plus he loves to cook! After building our home on Long Island where we raised our family, Jim yearned to get his hands on a historic home. It took us two years to find the old General Store and Post Office and another year and a half to renovate it.” She mentions that her own experience as a decorator and love of painting and hanging wallpaper also came in handy.

The innkeepers both agree that today Changing Times is a wonderful collaboration of both their skill sets. The French country décor beautifully complements the warm and welcoming authentic feel of an 1850’s country home while their guests enjoy private baths and other modern amenities, including high speed internet.

Guests always rave about Jim’s fresh baked muffins and fluffy scrambled eggs, and the innkeepers say that their favorite thing about being innkeepers is that their guests are hands down the best part of Inn-keeping, and they love hosting guests from around the world and helping them experience NY’s historic Hudson Valley. They say, “do what you love and love what you do!”

Loretta grew up spending summers on her grandparents dairy farm in the Catskills and says, “It was always a dream to return to upstate NY and live in the country surrounded by mountains. After looking for two years to find the perfect location, we narrowed down the search to the beautiful Hudson Valley. Two hours from NYC and yet the magic of the Hudson Valley makes you feel like you’re a million miles away from it all.“Changing Times Bed and Breakfast Dining RoomChanging Times Bed and Breakfast offers two rooms, Porthos and Athos, and two suites, the Aramis Suite and the Garden Suite. In the rooms you will find local guides to the area and please ask your innkeepers for recommendations on where to eat as well and they would be happy to make reservations for you.

At the B&B, a full country breakfast is served every morning featuring local items, fresh fruit, baked goods, assorted breads, hot and cold cereal and farm fresh eggs with hot side dishes. The B&B offers free High Speed Internet and a library full of books and movies for guests to enjoy. Child sitting and pet walking services are available as an added service to the B&B’s guests.

The best B & B in Columbia County!
My husband, family and extended family have been staying here for the last 5 years. We bring our black lab and are treated like family by Loretta and Jim. They go WAY above and beyond for all of their guests to make sure you are relaxed, happy, comfy and well fed while here. One of my favorite places in the world!!!!!”

Wonderful gem of a B&B
My two friends and I reserved 3 nights at this B&B just going on the description we read. We were very pleased when we arrived to find a lovely room that we could all share, a little patio to enjoy the outdoors and a most hospitable host! Loretta offered us so much information about the area and great suggestions of places to visit. Her husband cooked delicious muffins each day that we enjoyed along with eggs, potatoes and a fruit salad. On our last day, there were also pancakes. Our room was very clean and there were some nice amenities. The beds were very comfortable. We were so close to Hudson and other towns. It was the perfect place for us! I highly recommend it!”
