Located just minutes from the village of Rhinebeck, NY is the Olde Rhinebeck B&B Inn. Here you can find elegant and rustic charm spread throughout the Inn. The Hand-hewn chestnut beams and the original wide plank floors are just a few attributes of the four-room NY Bed And Breakfast.
Owned and operated by Jonna Paolella and co -Innkeeper Cynthia (Cindy) Curnan, this is their 20th year in business. Jonna was raised in a bed and breakfast in Brooklyn, her family often stayed in bed and breakfasts during their travels, and she has wanted to be an innkeeper since the age of 7. Cindy met Jonna when she purchased the farmhouse that became the Olde Rhinebeck Inn, her family had previously owned the home. Jonna inspired her to become an Innkeeper and she opened The Gables at Rhinebeck in the village. Cindy is a trained veterinary technician working with horses and farm animals, and her prior business as a property caretaker lent itself to caring for guests. Cindy mentions, “These skills came in handy during their travels as professional innsitters, especially on a Llama farm in New Zealand.”
When asked, “What is your favorite thing about being an innkeeper?” They told us, “The day to day diversity, cook, marketer, cleaner, gardener, and of course meeting kind, interesting guests that they are fortunate to share this historic special place they call home with.”
They mention that their favorite thing about the Hudson Valley is that they both travel quite a bit and are always reminded how the Hudson Valley, especially Rhinebeck, has a rural , country feel with all its beauty and the interesting people and activities in the area brings a unique culture, history and gourmet dining (Bard College, Vassar, CIA, historic sites) it’s truly a mix that is not easy to find anywhere else.
When guests ask for restaurant recommendations, the innkeepers suggest The Amsterdam, a local restaurant serving contemporary farm to table food with a great bar and garden patio, Market Street, which is the second restaurant from the team of Chef Gianni Scappin and Lois Freedman offering an contemporary Italian menu, featuring seasonal, local ingredients combined with the highest quality Italian products.
Liberty Tavern is also a new favorite, located in the historic 1860 Starr Institute, a lovely country pub featuring seasonal menus with the best of new & old world beer, wine & spirits.
Two other restaurants of note are Aroi Thai, which is an authentic Thai restaurant right in the heart of Rhinebeck, and Silvia, in local Woodstock, offering an open kitchen with a wood fired grill and an organic vegetable-centric menu, reflecting their commitment to locally sourced ingredients.
Jonna and Cindy like to send guests to the FDR Presidential Library and Home, Eleanor Roosevelt Historic site at Valkill and, they always suggest a stroll around the historic village of Rhinebeck, where there are lots of unique shops and architecture to view and experience.
