The Hudson Valley is home to some excellent colleges, such as The Culinary Institute of America, Marist College and many more. What makes Bard College unique is the art and music offerings open to the general public, and if visiting the Hudson Valley, don’t forget to check out their schedule of events at The Fisher Center at Bard College , where they offer year around concerts and performances.
The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College is an amazing facility that houses an environment where students can learn and create. The center bears the name of Richard B. Fisher, the former chair of Bard’s Board of Trustees. Bard College offers two event venues, the Sosnoff Theater which seats approximately 800 people. It features a proscenium stage that accommodates opera, music, dance, and theater and the more intimate LUMA Theater which seats approximately 200 people and hosts performances by students in Bard’s Dance and Theater & Performance Programs as well as professional productions ranging from rock concerts to chamber opera.
During the summer, Bard offers SummerScape and the Bard Music Festival which is a seven week series of performances of opera, dance, music, theater, cabaret, and film related to the music festivals theme, which focuses on a different composer each year.
During the fall and spring seasons there are original productions, special one-night-only concerts, and touring artists from around the globe. Regular guests include the American Symphony Orchestra, American Ballet Theater, Trisha Brown Dance Company, and the John Cage Trust.
In addition to the Fisher Center, the College is home to more than just performances. When visiting the school to check it out for students or just to visit, get there a bit early and explore some of the other offerings such as The Parliament of Reality, the Center for Curatorial Studies and Hessel Museum of Art, the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, Blithewood Manor, the Gabrielle H. Reem and Herbert J. Kayden Center for Science and Computation, Stone Row and the Chapel of the Holy Innocents
